Clean Up Sound and Harbors is organizing a community cleanup of debris in the Mystic River from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 27, Volunteers and pleasure boaters are asked to meet at Gwenmor Marina, 12 Roseleah Drive, Mystic.

Clean The Bay’s barge, with crew and winch, will help remove water-soaked lumber, metal objects and other heavy debris.

Small boats and captains are needed to carry volunteers close to shore to disembark and guide heavy debris to the barge or collect bottles and other trash in garbage bags.

Drinking water, rubber gloves and trash bags will be provided. If possible, volunteers should wear water shoes or wading boots and bring crab nets and poles with hooks.

All volunteers and pleasure boaters must register at www.cushinc.org.
