Clean up Sound and Harbors plans March 25 workshop

The New London Day 3/17/2014

Stonington – Clean up Sound and Harbors will sponsor a free workshop on March 25 about how to create rain gardens, coastal buffers and landscaping that protect area waters from pollution.

The presentation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mystic Arts Center and will feature Michael Nadeau, the founder of Holistic Land Care Consulting. The workshop will discus show to recognize potential problem areas and their impact, information about fertilizers and pesticides and how to build and maintain a landscape that creates lasting beauty and protection.

In announcing the workshop, CUSH said the Long Island Sound Study cited “dead zones” in which rainwater polluted by contaminants from lawns and roads empty into waterways as the biggest water quality problem facing the Sound. Nadeau is a licensed arborist, the past president of the Connecticut Groundskeepers Association and a founding member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s Organic Lawn Care Program.
